Compete Against Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps on Global Poker Next Week

Starting Oct. 16 on Global Poker, as part of the platform’s Celebrity Challenge, poker players can compete on the virtual felt with the most decorated Olympic athlete of all-time Michael Phelps.

Phelps, a swimmer, has 23 gold medals, 14 more than anyone else in history. You might compare his Olympic dominance to that of Phil Hellmuth, whose 17 gold bracelets are far and away a record, at the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

Global Poker is currently hosting a Celebrity Challenge that started with basketball star Paul George last month, followed by another NBA great Karl-Anthony Towns. Phelps is up next, and then wraps early next month with a DJ Khaled challenge (full schedules below).

Details on the Michael Phelps Celebrity Challenge

Phelps, who resides in the Phoenix area, is a recreational poker player who has competed in some major events over the years, including the World Series of Poker. He’s now ready to take his shot against the Global Poker community from Oct. 16-24.

In this round, the third of the challenge, Global Poker will award even more prizes and donations to charity. Phelps will challenge Global Poker Sweeps Coins (SC) players to some tournament poker action in daily qualifiers starting Oct. 16 until Oct. 23 (each starting at 8:30 p.m. ET). The daily qualifiers are 3.3 SC to enter, and the winner of each qualifier will be entered into the Oct. 24 Michael Phelps Celebrity Challenge Final, and the finale winner will earn a seat in the Global Poker Celebrity Challenge Grand Final in November with all four celebrities.

Each qualifying round features a separate prize pool and a chance to win Global Poker swag signed by the Olympic gold medalist. Additionally, Phelps and DJ Khaled will compete in a $10,000 heads-up poker match for charity. Phelps has pledged to donate money to his own charity, the Michael Phelps Foundation, which teaches water safety and also focuses on improving mental health.
